Meet General Chamberlain, the newest memeber of our human/feline/terrapin family. Gennie, as he is called, is seventeen years old and joins us after his companion of six years, Wilma Thompson Anders, died last week. She was a great and loving lady, and so full of life one can hardly think it possible that life could leave her, but it has done, and left poor Gennie without her.
Cats, like people, are not always able to choose their circumstances, and it may be that Gennie would have preferred to remain an only cat; he hasn't displayed any of the fondness for the trio of kittens that shortly preceded him here that my other adult cats, William, and the late Waldo, did. In general he prefers to be left alone, by cats at least.
The General has staked out the crawl space beneath my bed as his domain, and there he stays all day. At night he emerges and becomes a great purring sponge for affection. He must miss Wilma even more than we do, as she was his only living contact for all those years, but he is already greatly loved here and we hope he will be happy with us.
